Picture the scene: you’re in Fulham, you haven’t eaten for hours, you have a hankering for meat brought to you and carved off a skewer.
Well, you’re in luck. Brazilian restaurant Rodizio Rico, 11 Jerden Place has opened a branch of its successful barbeque restaurant just off Fulham Road. The premise is simple: fill your plate with side dishes from a hot and cold selection, take a seat, and wait for the waiters to bring barbequed meat to you.
And bring it they do. Chicken, lamb, beef and pork, carved onto your plate until you risk a coronary from the sheer volume. The side dishes are just as plentiful – a variety of olives, salads, vegetables and potatoes are offered alongside more bizarre offerings such as lasagne and some kind of deep fried banana. You’re welcome – nay, encouraged – to go back as many times as you like, but even the most hardened food inhaler would soon struggle.
Handily, the team provide a card – green on one side and red on the other – which you can turn over when you’ve had your fill, although the overzealous staff won’t necessarily take any notice.
There’s a wide variety of wines and some pretty potent cocktails to go with your meal, and if you can manage it, a great selection of puddings. The Brazilian chocolate cake was particularly good, but the restaurant also does an excellent line in barbequed banana and pineapple.
The food isn’t outstanding, but there’s lots of it and it’s certainly a novel set up. The restaurant is huge so it’s a good guarantee if you’re too hungry to wait, and the seating outside is lovely on a summer’s evening. This would be a great place to go with a group of friends for a relaxed night.
In short, Rodizio Rico is not for the faint hearted, but it’s certainly an experience.
Dinner for two with wine and service is around £80. Readers can get 15 per cent off voucher here.
